ABOUT

David Nields is a director, instructor, and musician with over 20 years experience in entertainment and education. As a director and actor, he has worked in professional, academic, and community theater. As an educator, he has instructed students from the age of 2 to 102..literally. 

 

He grew up in Raleigh, N.C. and graduated from Wake Forest University, after which he pursued a dual career of education and theatre. He received an M.F.A. in Directing from Catholic University, and went on to work in institutions such as the Shakespeare Theater at the Folger, Williamstown Theatre Festival, the Summer Theater at Mt. Holyoke and the Pioneer Valley Summer Theatre. At the Pioneer Valley Summer Theatre, he served as the Education Director and on the Board of Directors. He also taught theatre at several prep schools and high schools in Connecticut and Massachusetts. He had a 5 year tangent as a professional musician, playing guitar and writing songs for the band The Nields, which toured throughout the United States and Canada. He was the Theater Director at the Imperial Centre in Rocky Mount, NC. He also spent a year working for Disney English to teach in Beijing, China. Currently, he is Director of the Theater Program at the Collegiate School on the campus of the State College of Florida. He also directs locally for such organizations as Manatee Performing Arts Center and Starlite Theater. Additionally, he is an Adjunct Instructor at the Ringling College of Art and Design, teaching Acting to Animators.
